James Johnston

James Johnston has extensive work experience in the renewable energy industry, specifically in the operations and maintenance (O&M) of utility-scale solar power plants. James is currently the Vice President of Operations at Miller Bros Solar, where they oversee the company's operational activities. Prior to this role, they served as the Director of Utility Services at the same company.

Before joining Miller Bros Solar, James worked at Clearway Energy Group as the General Manager of Utility Solar Operations and Maintenance. In this position, they had full profit and loss responsibility for O&M services on a fleet of over 25 utility solar plants with a combined operating capacity of over 1.5 gigawatts.

James also gained experience as the Manager of Operations and Maintenance Consultant at GAS UNLIMITED, where they assisted in managing the operations, maintenance, and safety of a fleet of 12 utility-scale solar power plants. Additionally, they worked briefly as a Manager of Operations and Maintenance Consultant at Solar Energy Services at Hukari Technical Services, Inc.

Early in their career, James held roles at First Solar as the Manager of Power Plant Maintenance US and as the Enterprise Asset Manager (EAM). James managed technical and maintenance activities within multiple utility-scale PV solar plants and focused on safety, quality, and preventative maintenance. James also established and maintained a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track work orders, equipment reliability, and performance.

James began their career at Arizona Public Service (APS), where they held roles as an Instrument and Control Maintenance Team Leader, Instrument and Control Technician, and Nuclear Operator.
