Lara Hakki

Lara Hakki is an Associate in the International department. She focuses her practice on international trade issues, including customs and import trade and economic sanctions. She also advises clients on how to integrate international human rights considerations into their businesses.

Ms. Hakki represents clients in matters involving various government agencies, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Department of the Treasury. Ms. Hakki ensures her clients meet all regulatory and human rights requirements, and frequently advises clients on their due diligence requirements under the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA). She has experience conducting investigations into alleged violations of U.S. law, complying with government agency enforcement, conducting risk assessments, and developing compliance programs for companies in various industry sectors.

Ms. Hakki leverages her experience in the Middle East and Europe to advise clients on complex global issues at the intersection of trade and human rights. She has written papers on international law topics, which have been published by Cambridge University Press and the International Review of the Red Cross.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Hakki worked at an Am Law 100 law firm where she focused on regulatory issues related to economic sanctions, export controls, consumer protection, and national security.

Ms. Hakki received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law and graduated with a Certificate in International Law and a Certificate in Public Interest and Social Justice. She also received her B.A. in Modern Middle Eastern Studies, summa cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.
