Jane H. Yamashiro

Jane H. Yamashiro has a diverse and extensive work experience. Jane H. currently holds the position of Co Director, Research Justice at the Intersections Fellowship Program at Mills College since August 2021. Prior to this role, they were a Research Scholar at Mills College starting from June 2020. Jane H. also served as a Research Justice at the Intersections Fellow from June 2019 to June 2020 and as a Visiting Research Fellow from January 2019 to May 2019 at Mills College. In addition, they worked as an Adjunct Professor at Mills College from August 2018 to December 2018.

Furthermore, they have worked as a Sociology Instructor at Mount Tamalpais College from August 2021 to December 2021 and from August 2019 to December 2019. Jane H. was also a Tutor from January 2018 to June 2018 and an Instructor from January 2017 to December 2017 at the Prison University Project.

Additionally, they were a Visiting Scholar at UCLA from 2014 to 2016 and at the University of Southern California from 2012 to 2014. Jane H. served as a Teaching Fellow at Loyola Marymount University from 2009 to 2012. Jane H. also worked as a Visiting Researcher & Instructor at Sophia University from 2007 to 2009 and as a Visiting Researcher at The University of Tokyo from 2005 to 2007.

Their earlier experience includes working as a Coordinator of International Relations under the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) from 1995 to 1998. In this role, they worked in the Planning Section of City Hall, where their responsibilities included interpreting, translating, organizing events, writing newsletters and radio lessons, and coordinating international aspects of the Nagano Winter Olympics Festival of Culture and Art.

Jane H. Yamashiro obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology & Japanese Studies from UC San Diego from 1990 to 1995. Jane H. then pursued higher education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where they obtained a Master's and Ph.D. degree in Sociology from 2000 to 2008. In addition, they participated in the Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies (IUC) in 2004-2005 to enhance their proficiency in the Japanese language. Jane H. also attended the East-West Center from 2002 to 2005 as a Graduate Degree Fellow. Prior to their university education, they completed their secondary education at Berkeley High School from 1986 to 1990.
