Job description

Millstone Weber is seeking an experienced Controller to work at our headquarters in St. Charles MO.  This role reports to our CFO and will lead multiple financial and accounting functions.  Actively participates in payroll oversight, contract administration, monthly close and financial statements, year-end financial processes, and general management of the Accounting Department.

Primary Responsibilities

  • 401(k) Administration
  • Payroll mgt/oversight including knowledge of union payroll and multi state payroll tax filings
  • Contract Administration
    • Accounts receivable
      • Initiate investigation and pursuit of payment – delegated to contract admin department and project management
    • Oversight of process for timely owner pay estimates and change order management
    • Oversight of subcontractor pay estimate process
      • Direct subcontractor accounts payable payments based on owner cash receipts
    • Accounts payable management
      • Identify invoices for payment
      • Update cash projection (A/P weekly payfile)
      • Review and approve credit applications
    • Participation in cash management
    • Monthly close and financial statements
      • Routine journal entry preparation and oversight
      • Oversight of monthly bank reconciliations prepared by accounting department
      • Manage monthly payables cut-off
      • Fixed asset accounting
      • Participate in contract revenue accounting including job cost review meetings
      • Become familiar with financial statement preparation process
    • Year-end and annual
      • Participate in preparation for annual audit
      • A point of contact with auditors
      • Participation in providing information for income tax return preparation
      • Participate in preparation of necessary owner prequalification reports
      • Oversight and review of personal property tax declarations
      • Oversight of use tax reporting
      • Participation in projections and budgeting
    • General management
      • Supervision and management of accounting department (accounting manager on down)
        • Involvement with HR in hiring, evaluating accounting department
        • Develop accounting department staff
      • Report to CFO
        • Participate in leadership meetings
      • Participate in corporate insurance programs management
      • Familiarize with ESOP administration and management
      • ERP (Spectrum) management
        • Implementation of system and upgrades
        • Maintain and ensure system integrity
        • New business initiatives
          • New markets
          • Joint Ventures
        • General systems knowledge and proficiency

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA or other relevant certification, preferred
  • Experience as Controller, preferred
  • Experience in public accounting or industry with construction accounting
  • Deep understanding of and hands-on experience with ERP systems
  • Benefit plan administration and management of 401k and ESOPs, preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of current GAAP
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Strong attention to detail with focus on accuracy
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including database, reporting software, spreadsheet and other general business applications
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet tight deadlines
