Maarten Haest

Vice President Geoscience at MineSense Technologies

Maarten Haest began their work experience as a PhD student at K.U.Leuven in October 2005 and completed their position in September 2009. Maarten then joined CSIRO in November 2009 as a Geoscientist until April 2012. Haest then moved on to BHP in April 2012, where they held the roles of Senior Research Geologist until June 2015 and later became a Principal Research Geologist until October 2018. At BHP, Haest worked on developing and implementing applications for hyperspectral sensing and machine learning to enhance the productivity of iron ore exploration, mining, and processing. Maarten also played a significant role in creating a material handling index that optimized blending to maximize throughput. Since October 2018, Haest has been working at MineSense Technologies Ltd., starting as Vice President of Technology until June 2020, and then as Vice President GeoScience.

Maarten Haest obtained a Master's degree in geology from KU Leuven, where they studied from 2001 to 2005. Maarten continued their education at the same institution and worked towards a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Geology/Earth Science, General, which they completed from 2005 to 2009.
