Diego Mesa is a seasoned professional in the field of economics and energy policy, currently serving as Deputy Division Chief and Senior Climate Economist at the International Monetary Fund since September 2022, while also holding the position of Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Center on Global Energy Policy since February 2023. Prior to these roles, Diego served as Minister of Energy and Mines and Deputy Minister of Energy at the Ministerio de Minas y Energía from September 2018 to August 2022. Diego's extensive experience also includes significant positions at the International Monetary Fund from 2013 to 2018, where leadership in technical assistance missions focused on fiscal issues for extractive industries was emphasized, alongside a managerial role at PwC providing economic consulting services. Additionally, Diego held various earlier roles including Director at Large for the World Petroleum Council's youth council, a research analyst, and an intern with ECLAC, complemented by academic roles at McGill University. Diego holds a Master’s degree in Economics from McGill University and has completed specialized programs in Environmental Economics at Harvard Kennedy School.
