Sergio Acosta y Lara is a seasoned professional in the field of geographic information systems and urban planning, currently serving as Jefe Departamento Cartografía Digital and Jefe Departamento de Geomática at the Ministerio de Transporte y Obras Públicas since January 2012. Key responsibilities include the production and maintenance of the national and departmental road cartographic database using geographic information technologies, as well as the design and development of the Spatial Data Infrastructure for the ministry. Additionally, Sergio acts as a coordinator for Comunidad gvSIG Uruguay and leads the gvSIG Educa/Batoví project aimed at creating a geographic information system for educational environments. With a strong foundation in urban planning from UDELAR, where a degree in Architecture focusing on Territorial Planning and Urban Development was obtained, Sergio has also contributed to various committees and projects enhancing geographic data standards and metadata in Uruguay. Prior experience includes architectural and technical roles at the Dirección Nacional de Topografía and involvement in significant national projects like SIGNAC.
