Walter Okello serves as the Assistant Commissioner of Internal Audit at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development since January 2020, and has held a similar role since October 2014. Prior to this, Walter was involved in various capacities within the Ministry of Education and Sports, where significant contributions included authoring a fiduciary assurance paper for a World Bank-funded project and leading the Internal Audit function during critical audits. Walter's experience also encompasses leadership in performance auditing and participation in legislative amendments within the public finance sector. With a Master's degree in Business Administration from Heriot Watt University and a Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University, Walter's professional expertise is complemented by relevant experience in both governmental and international organizations, including a role at the World Bank.
