Jill Prohofsky

Chief Child Support Magistrate at Minnesota Judicial Branch

Jill Prohofsky has extensive work experience in the legal field, starting in 1996 as a Partner at Doroshow & LeBow, PLLP. Jill practiced family law, personal injury, sexual harassment, employment discrimination, and handled general accounting tasks. In 2000, they became a Solo Practitioner, working as an Attorney until the end of the year. Jill concurrently served as a Legal Writing Attorney Instructor at the University of Minnesota Law School from 1994 to 2001.

In 2001, Jill became the Director/Managing Attorney at Catholic Charities Law Center, where they oversaw all aspects of a non-profit legal services family law clinic. Jill provided legal advice sessions, directed representation, and supervised staff. Jill also served as the President of Affiliated Building Company at the International Spanish Language Academy from 2013 to 2015.

From 2002 to 2021, Jill held various positions within the Minnesota Judicial Branch, starting as a Child Support Magistrate. Jill adjudicated child support matters, presided over hearings, and issued orders in multiple metro counties. Jill then became an Assistant Chief Child Support Magistrate, responsible for managing the Child Support Magistrate program in multiple judicial districts. Finally, they served as the Chief Child Support Magistrate, providing leadership and management of the statewide IV-D child support program.

Jill also had roles at the Minnesota State Bar Association, where they served on the High School Mock Trial Advisory Committee and acted as a High School Mock Trial Judge. Jill was also the President of the Minnesota State Bar Foundation from 2007 to 2016 and served as the Family Law Editor for www.practicelaw.org in 2012.

Jill was a member of the Minnesota Supreme Court Committee for Equality & Justice from 2017 to 2021 and worked as an Adjunct Faculty member at William Mitchell College of Law from 2000 to 2006.

Finally, in 2023, Jill will become a Board Member at the Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board.

Jill Prohofsky has a JD degree from the University of Minnesota Law School, obtained in 1993. Prior to that, they completed their BA in Psychology at the University of Michigan in 1990. In addition to their degrees, Jill has achieved two certifications: Certified Court Executive from the National Center for State Courts, obtained in April 2023, and Certified Court Manager, obtained in September 2021.
