Derek Bandera

Derek Bandera is an experienced professional in federal regulatory affairs and energy policy. As Executive Director of Federal Regulatory Affairs at the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) since May 2013, Derek leads initiatives affecting regulatory and market policies. Previously, as Director of Federal Government Affairs at GenOn Energy, Derek successfully coordinated a coalition to modify the Federal Power Act and collaborated with legislators to pass significant bipartisan legislation. Derek’s background includes directing federal regulatory policy at Reliant Energy/RRI Energy, impacting wholesale market policies, and serving as Policy Advisor to the Chairman at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, where efforts focused on competitive market development. Early career experience includes roles as an Economist and Senior Economist, emphasizing regulatory analyses in energy and transportation sectors. Derek holds a B.S. in Math and Economics from Carnegie Mellon University and has pursued advanced studies in Economics at the University at Albany.
