This position can be fully remote or hybrid near Mitacs offices in Montréal, Toronto, Ottawa, or Vancouver.

Accountant

Reporting to the Manager, Treasury & Compliance, the Accountant is responsible for, but not limited to, vendor accounts payable and integrity of the general ledger by entering all transactions into the accounting system accurately, processing expenditure claims and invoices to appropriate accounts, processing cheques and EFTs on a weekly basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Process vendor invoices on a weekly basis
  • Process cheques, EFT’s and wires on a weekly basis
  • Lead the creation and communication of remittances to vendors for all payments
  • Preparation of monthly close working papers
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system using SharePoint
  • Document new and updated processes
  • Responding to queries and requests from internal and external stakeholders
  • Additional tasks as assigned

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:  

  • Post-secondary education and a combination of commercial or business experience with
  • training in an accounts payable role
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles and functions, including but not limited to, journal
  • entries, invoice processing procedures, expense approvals, etc.
  • 1+ years accounts payable accounting work experience is preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics is an asset
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are essential
  • Strong communication skills – both written and oral – with all levels of stakeholders
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a remote team environment

Hiring Range: $47,360 - $56,240

Hiring and Salary Range Transparency 

Typically, employees are hired, transferred, or promoted within the salary range, specifically between the minimum and midpoint in the hiring range.

The salary range refers to the range of base salaries for a given position, encompassing the minimum and maximum amounts. The midpoint of the range is positioned approximately halfway between the minimum and maximum, indicating a fully qualified employee with comprehensive job knowledge and experience for the role.

Only in rare and exceptional circumstances, where a candidate has the experience, skills, and expertise that far exceed those required for the position, would we consider paying above the hiring range for this role.
