Stefano Di Cairano is an experienced researcher and team leader specializing in advanced control algorithms for mechatronic systems, with applications across aerospace, factory automation, robotics, power systems, and telecommunications. Currently serving as a Senior Team Leader and Distinguished Research Scientist at MERL since September 2011, Stefano has previously held roles at Ford Motor Company as a Technical Expert and Senior Research Engineer, where optimization-based control strategies for powertrain and vehicle dynamics were developed. Additionally, Stefano has contributed to the IEEE Technical Committee on Automotive Controls as Chair and has a strong academic background, holding a PhD in Automatic Control from Università di Siena and experience as a visiting PhD student at Caltech.
