Marco Tjioe has a wealth of experience in the field of biosciences. In 2022, they began working as a Scientist III at Molecular Assemblies, Inc. Prior to that, they were a Scientist 1 at Element Biosciences from 2019-2022. From 2018-2019, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute, where they developed a mass-spectrometric immunoassay (MS-IA) for multiplexed, in-vitro diagnosis of bacteria. Marco also utilized analytical MS knowledge to identify issues with non-specific binding of bacteria to nanoparticle, and used three-color fluorescence flow cytometry for non-specific binding assessment. From 2009-2018, they were a Visiting Scholar and Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where they developed a novel force-fluorescence assay, a new magnetic purification system, automated particle tracking, counting and length analysis, and image registration and binarization in Matlab. Marco also performed primer design, PCR, cloning, restriction digest, ligation, transformation and protein purification, and built a total internal reflection fluorescence microscope (TIRFM) with three color lasers and two-color emission.
Marco Tjioe's education history includes a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biophysics and Computational Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which they obtained between 2009 and 2017. Marco also holds a Bachelor of Science - BS in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts - BA in Chemistry, both of which they obtained from Lafayette College between 2005 and 2009.
