James Layton is an accomplished film preservationist and project manager with extensive experience in the field of film archiving and historical documentation. Currently serving as the Founder and Project Manager of Film Atlas at the FIAF, James is leading a collaborative initiative to create an encyclopedic online resource on film history, anticipated for completion in 2026. As the Manager of the Celeste Bartos Film Preservation Center at The Museum of Modern Art, James oversees the operations of a significant moving image collection. Previous roles include co-founding Media History Press, serving as a Research and Information Specialist at the George Eastman Museum, and managing workflows at the East Anglian Film Archive. James holds a Graduate Certificate in Film Archiving & Restoration from the L. Jeffrey Selznick School and a B.A. (Hons) in Film & Video from the University for the Creative Arts.
