John Simpson

Council Member at Monash University

Mr. Simpson stepped down as President of ESSSuper in February 2016. ESSSuper is the Victorian Emergency Services & State Superannuation Fund. He has been a Director of the Fund since February 2012.

Mr. Simpson spent the majority of his career with Shell - working in Australia, Asia and for four years in the United Kingdom. He was Director - External Affairs at Shell, and was appointed to the Board of Shell Australia Limited in 2002 and Shell Energy Holdings (Australia) Limited in 2003. He worked with Shell International for four years in the mid-1990s. Later, in his executive career, Mr Simpson worked in senior roles at National Australia Bank - mostly as Strategic Adviser to the CEO.

Mr. Simpson has a particular interest in education and served on the Board of Scotch College for 16 years. He recently retired from the Board of the National Science & Technology Centre (Questacon) - where he was Deputy Chairman for 8 years.

In the Not-for-Profit sector - Mr. Simpson is a Trustee of the H V McKay Charitable Trust. He is on the Advisory Board of The Global Foundation and recently retired from the Food Rescue organisation - SecondBite - where he was a Director for 10 years.

Mr. Simpson has previously been a Director of: The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, The Australian National Maritime Museum, The Alannah & Madeline Foundation, The Shell Foundation (Chair), and the NGV Foundation (Vic).
