Peter Young

Deputy Chancellor at Monash University

The Hon Peter Young AM KC has been a member of Monash University Council since 2014 and commenced as Deputy Chancellor in 2019.

A graduate of Monash University, Peter joined the Victorian Bar in 1975 and was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1997.

In August 2002, he was appointed by the Federal Government to the Bench of the Family Court of Australia and served the community in that position until his retirement in mid-2013.

Peter now practises as a King’s Counsel in court-ordered and other private mediations and arbitrations, specialising in family property, commercial and other financial disputes.

He is a past Chairman of the Melbourne Racing Club and for five years (2013-2018) was a member of the Epworth Hospital Ethics and Medical Research Committee.

In February 2018, and until August 2022, The Hon Young was appointed by the Attorney General and Minister for Racing as a member of the Thoroughbred Racing Integrity Council.
