Veli-Matti Puurunen has worked in the software engineering industry since 2002. Veli-Matti began their career at QPR Software Plc as a Software Developer in 2002. In 2003, they moved to K-Netica as a QA Developer. In 2004, they joined Tieto as a Software Developer, where they worked on Nokia DX 220 and MSC network elements. From 2006 to 2012, they worked at EB, Elektrobit, as a Design Engineer. During this time, they worked on text shaping and rendering for Nokia S40 devices. In 2012, they joined Nokia as a Senior Software Engineer and then as a Senior Software Design Engineer. From 2014 to present, they have worked at Microsoft as a Senior Software Engineer and at Monidor Oy as a CTO and Co-founder, Senior Software Developer, and Senior Software Engineer. At Monidor, they have worked on developing innovative and smart medical devices, wireless communications, and medical device software. At Microsoft, they have been a Test Lead working on non-functional testing for the Nokia X2 smartphone.

Veli-Matti Puurunen completed a Master of Science (Engineering) in Industrial Engineering and Management from the University of Oulu. Veli-Matti was also an exchange student at Hamline University in 2002-2003. In October 2014, they obtained a Certified Scrum Master certification from the Scrum Alliance.
