Martin Dougiamas

Martin Dougiamas founded Moodle in 2000 and has been serving as the CEO since then. Additionally, they founded Open EdTech in 2020. Prior to these roles, they worked as an Internet Consultant at Curtin University of Technology from 1994 to 2001 and as a Software Engineer at Carras Mining from 1989 to 1992.

Martin Dougiamas holds a diverse educational background that includes degrees in various fields. Martin'seducation history starts in 1986, when they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Electronic Engineering at The University of Western Australia, completing it in 1987. Martin then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science from Curtin University between 1989 and 1992.

Continuing their education, Dougiamas obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Science Education from Curtin University, completing the program from 1998 to 1999. Martin'sacademic journey culminated in a PhD in Internet-Based Education, which they pursued at Curtin University from 2000 to 2007.

In addition to their degrees, Dougiamas has also received several notable certifications. In 2016, they were awarded an honorary doctorate, Doctor Honoris Causa UVic, by Universitat de Vic – Universitat Central de Catalunya. This was followed by another honorary doctorate, Doctor Honoris Causa UCL, Belgium, from Université catholique de Louvain in 2018. Recently, in 2022, they obtained an honorary doctorate, the Honorary Doctorate, from the University of Piraeus.
