James Rhodes

Chief Technology Officer at Morningstar

James Rhodes is the current Chief Technology Officer at Morningstar. James has previously served as a Partner and Chief Technology Officer at Rocaton Investment Advisors from May 2011 to September 2016. At Rocaton, Rhodes was responsible for defining the company's technical vision and driving technical innovation across the firm. This included overseeing Rocaton's software development and infrastructure / systems engineering team. James also led the efforts at Rocaton to redesign their client reporting capabilities, quantitative and qualitative research platforms, and external content delivery systems.

Rhodes is an expert in big data analytical systems, and recently developed a web-based (AngularJS/REST/Java) application for mining and analyzing corporate retirement data. This technology was spun out into a startup organization which was sold to Morningstar in March 2016.

James Rhodes has a MS in Software Engineering Management from Carnegie Mellon University and a BS in Computer Science from Muhlenberg.
