Lisa MacNeil

Intake Counsellor, Counselling Services at MOUNT SAINT VINCENT UNIVERSITY

Lisa is a Registered Counselling Therapist Candidate (RCT-C) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. She holds an M.Ed. in Counselling from Acadia University and has experience working in not-for-profit organizations and in post-secondary where she supported students in experiential learning activities. Lisa holds a Certificate in Trauma Counselling for Mental Health Professionals: Level 1 and has completed training in suicide prevention, attachment, somatic experiencing as well as trauma integration.

Lisa recognizes that navigating life as a student can be challenging, and is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment where her clients can explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Lisa approaches counselling from a perspective that recognizes the unique and diverse experience of each person, all while honoring the collaborative nature of counselling. She works within an integrative counselling framework and draws on mindfulness-based and strengths-based approaches, such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindful Self-compassion, while also working from a trauma-informed lens.

Lisa meets her clients with openness, non-judgement and warmth. She is dedicated to holding space for clients as they navigate through obstacles and look to find greater well-being and fulfillment in their lives.
