Michael Gomez has a diverse work experience in the field of genetics and genetic engineering. Michael currently works at Mozza Foods as a Genetics Manager since February 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Beyond Meat as an Innovation Scientist II from February 2022 to October 2022. Michael also served as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Innovative Genomics Institute from January 2018 to February 2022.

Before their postdoctoral position, Michael worked at the University of California, Berkeley. Michael held various roles, including being a Coordinator for a high school outreach program called "CLEAR in the Classroom" from September 2017 to April 2018. Michael was also a Graduate Student Researcher, where they focused on generating genetic resistance to viral infection in cassava through genome editing using CRISPR technology. Additionally, they organized and co-chaired the Plant Genome Engineering Symposium as part of the DuPont Pioneer Symposium series.

Michael's early work experience includes being an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of California, Los Angeles from April 2010 to June 2012. During this time, they gained valuable experience in research.

Michael Gomez earned their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics from UCLA, which they completed from 2008 to 2012. Following that, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Plant & Microbial Biology at the University of California, Berkeley from 2012 to 2017.
