Munya Chiura

Head of Africa Business Development at MPOWER Financing

Munya Chiura has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Munya started their career as a Fintech Africa Advisory Board Member at Village Capital from October 2017 to October 2019. Munya also served as a Council Member at GLG (Gerson Lehrman Group) from January 2011 to January 2020.

In their most recent roles, Munya worked at Flywire as the Head of Middle East and Africa, Payments from January 2018 to December 2019. Munya later became the Sales Manager, Education for South Africa at Flywire from December 2019 to December 2020. Munya was also a Payments Consultant for Africa at Flywire from July 2017 to December 2017.

Before that, Munya was the Head of Rest of Africa, Growth at Flutterwave from January 2021 to January 2023. Munya also worked at RaliCap as a Limited Partner (Angel Investor) starting from January 2021. Munya joined Pavilion as a Member in October 2020 and served as a Mentor at Chapter54 from September 2022.

In the future, Munya will take on the role of Strategic Advisor at Revio from April 2023. Munya will then join MPOWER Financing as the Head of Africa Business Development starting from January 2023.

Lastly, Munya had a significant role at Harare Receivables Exchange. Munya served as a Chairman of the Board from January 2014 to December 2018 and as a Non-Executive Director from November 2012 to December 2019. Munya'swork at Harare Receivables Exchange involved developing a trading platform for the sale and purchase of invoices in the Zimbabwean environment.

Munya Chiura has a diverse education history spanning several institutions and fields of study. In 1987 to 1993, Munya attended St George's College, where they focused on subjects such as accounting, mathematics, and history. Following this, Munya pursued a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Economics at Lehigh University from 1993 to 1997.

Continuing their education, Munya completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Global Business Management at the University of Phoenix between 2003 and 2005. They then obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Business from Kennedy Western University from 2005 to 2008.

Further specializing their skills, Munya obtained a Masters Certificate in IS/IT Project Management from Villanova University in 2010. Recently, in 2019, Munya attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to complete a Certificate in New Ventures Leadership, specifically focusing on entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial studies.

In addition to their academic achievements, Munya has also obtained additional certifications. In 1999, they earned a Six Sigma Black Belt certification from Six Sigma Qualtec. More recently, in September 2021, Munya obtained a certification in Building High-Performance Teams from LinkedIn.
