Carlos A. Rivera has a diverse work experience spanning over four decades. Carlos A. began their career as a Risk Management Analyst at Marsh in 1979 and then worked as a Research Analyst at McKinsey & Company from 1980 to 1982. From 1984 to 1990, they held the position of Marketing Manager at Novartis. Rivera then joined Hermes Corporativo as the Corporate Planning VP from 1990 to 1994. Carlos A. moved to GE Capital in 1995 and served as the Business Leader for Insurance & Savings in Mexico until 2002. In 2002, Rivera became the IMD President of the Alumni Club of Mexico and later served on the IMD Foundation Board as an Alumni Representative from 2014 to 2017. Rivera has also served on the board and held important positions at Great American Insurance since 2004.

Carlos A. obtained a Deutsches Sprachdiplom during this time. From 1976 to 1980, Carlos studied Actuarial Science at Universidad Anáhuac and earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree. In 1983, they briefly attended the IMD Business School, where they pursued an MBA. While no field of study is mentioned for their MBA, it is worth noting that it was obtained for a short duration.

In addition to their formal education, Carlos A. Rivera has obtained certifications over the years. In 2001, they became a Black Belt certified professional through GE Capital.
