George Oates is the founder of Museum in a Box, a company that specializes in creating museums in a box that can be shipped anywhere in the world. Prior to starting their own company, George worked as the Director of Design at Stamen, where they were responsible for art direction, user experience design, project planning & management, and client liaison. George has also worked as a Research Associate at the Smithsonian Institution and as Lead, Open Library at the Internet Archive.

George Oates was a Fellow at The Institute of Cooperative Digital Economy at The New School. George received their MA in Virtual Communication from RMIT University and was a Research Affiliate at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at The University of Edinburgh.
