Lara Nellissen is a PhD primatologist at Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, focusing on communication and spatial coordination in western gorillas, in collaboration with the University of Neuchatel since February 2020. Previously, Lara worked as a researcher at Universität Zürich, investigating curiosity and cognition in wild orangutans from October 2018 to February 2020. Lara's doctoral studies in neuroscience at Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research, completed in September 2018, centered on memory and neuronal plasticity. Additional experience includes roles as an assistant biology lecturer, research internships exploring the impact of stress hormones on brain development, mitochondrial proteins related to chronic pain, and contributions to an ethics module for biology honors education at Utrecht University. Lara holds a Master of Science in Neuroscience and Cognition and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Utrecht University.
