Dr Sue Ieraci studied a medical degree at the University of Sydney, graduating in 1983. She did her internship and most of her post-graduate training at St Vincents Hospital in Sydney, before achieving her Fellowship in Emergency Medicine at the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine in 1990. Her first consultant position was in Vancouver, Canada, before returning to continue her specialist career in Australia.
Dr Ieraci thoroughly enjoys conversing with people and throughout her medical career she has actively participated in writing and vocalising her passion for patient-centred care. She has contributed to the Textbook of Adult Emergency Medicine, 4th Edition (Jelinek ed.) and writes for The Medical Journal of Australia’s blog site, MJA Insight.
After 35 years in public hospital medicine, Dr Ieraci discovered telemedicine with My Emergency Doctor and hasn’t looked back. She is often commended on her ability to deconstruct complex medical knowledge and put it in context for patients to have them instantly understand. Her satisfaction in her role as a FACEM is reflected in the many meaningful conversations Dr Ieraci enjoys in her telemedicine work – from joking with jovial seniors to sharing frank end-of-life discussions with families, and supporting other clinicians in remote settings. Her wealth of experience is now distilled to provide a service she has endless curiosity and passion in delivering.
