John Gieselmann is currently working at MyFitnessPal as a Senior Engineering Manager, where they oversee the frontend engineering team and growth efforts. John previously led the backend engineering efforts and also initiated the Floral Friday movement to encourage teammates to wear floral or floral-like patterned shirts.
Prior to joining MyFitnessPal, John worked at Under Armour as an Engineering Manager from April 2020 to December 2020.
Before that, they served as the Director of Engineering at Atmosphere from April 2019 to March 2020. In this role, they led a team of in-house and overseas engineers, managing the full development cycle and overseeing the architecting and development of a web-based digital signage platform and API.
John also worked as the Director of Engineering at Chive Media Group from January 2017 to April 2019. John led a team of engineers and was responsible for planning, scoping, architecting, developing, testing, releasing, and problem-solving for new and existing projects. John played a key role in architecting and developing the CHIVE TV platform and a user-generated content sharing platform.
Prior to that, John worked at People Productions Media Services, Inc. as a Lead Developer from August 2011 to February 2015. John built and maintained web and iOS features, re-architected and rebuilt a sales presentation tool, and developed various web applications.
John started their career as an intern at The Spot, where they gained experience in website design, development, and graphic design for print pieces. John also provided printing services.
Before entering the tech industry, John worked as an Attractions Host at Walt Disney World from October 2009 to May 2011.
John Gieselmann holds a BA degree in Digital Media: Web Design from the University of Central Florida, which they obtained from 2009 to 2011. Prior to that, they attended Missouri State University from 2005 to 2009, focusing on Business/Commerce, General. In addition to their academic qualifications, they have obtained several certifications. These include Level 1 Coach from USA Weightlifting, received in March 2022, and Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) from Scrum Alliance, obtained in November 2022. Additionally, they have completed a certification in Preventing Workplace Harassment from Emtrain.
