Dr. Lieven Desmet

Dr. Lieven Desmet has extensive work experience in the field of optical design and innovation. Dr. Lieven began their career as a research scientist at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where they focused on proton lithography and micro-optics. Dr. Lieven later transitioned to roles at Philips, Amphenol ICC, and littil LED Lights, where they continued to work on optical systems and design. Most recently, they held the position of System Design Responsible at Airbus Helicopters before becoming the Lead Engineer Space Laser at Mynaric in 2022.

Dr. Lieven Desmet completed their Master's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at HOGENT from 1993 to 1997. Dr. Lieven then pursued a Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, and Communications Engineering at Vrije Universiteit Brussel from 1997 to 2000. Dr. Desmet continued their education at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering Sciences from 2000 to 2007. Additionally, they have received various certifications in topics ranging from space mission design to career development.
