Ray Cowan

Ray is Senior Algorithms Engineer at Seismic and works on many of the software systems, cloud services and data science. Since 2015, Ray has worked as a software engineer for startup companies in Silicon Valley, where he designed algorithms for smart wearable sensors with applications to biomechanics and health. Ray worked for the M.I.T Laboratory of Nuclear Science for 28 years as a a research scientist where he developed algorithms for breakthrough research in fundamental physics. Part of his work contributed to the award of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physics for the detection of broken symmetries involving B mesons. Ray values creativity and enjoys solving technical and scientific problems. Qualities he holds in high regard are imagination, perseverance, and a willingness to learn.

As an undergraduate, Ray studied physics, mathematics, and electrical engineering at Vanderbilt University. He continued his education at Princeton where he received his M.A. and Ph.D. in physics.
