Frederick Soo has over 15 years of experience in the fields of engineering, product development, and AI solutions. In 2002, they began a Postdoctoral Fellowship with Professors Fred Rieke and Peter Detwiler at the University of Washington, where they studied light adaptation in cone photoreceptors. In 2003, they started Soo | Photography, specializing in portraits, weddings, and journalistic photography and videography. In 2007, they received a Postdoctoral Fellowship in retinal neurophysiology at Princeton University, where they were awarded a McKnight grant for research into novel microfabricated patch clamp pipette and published in the Journal of Neuroscience. From 2011 to 2015, they worked as a Senior Associate at McKinsey & Company. In 2014, they became an author for ThePositiveRail.com, writing about their experience designing and building small but sophisticated electronic systems. In 2015, they co-founded and became the Chief Technical Officer of Nauto Inc, building a platform for the autonomous vehicle data ecosystem. In 2017, they began working as an Autonomous Systems Consultant for Soo Embedded Systems and as Senior Director of Product and AI Solutions for Mythic, Inc., where they wrote code, managed engineering teams, vendors and contractors, and developed algorithms.
Frederick Soo attended Horace Greeley High School. Frederick then went on to Harvard University, where they earned a Bachelor/Masters Degree in Biology - Neuroscience and a Bachelor's degree in Biology, General between 1992 and 1996. Frederick then attended Stanford University, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biophysics in 2002.
