Sabine Bowman-Grahl

Principal Scientist - Protein Production Lead at NanoSyrinx

Sabine Bowman-Grahl has a diverse background in the sciences, having worked in a variety of roles at different institutions since 2005. Sabine began their career as a Laboratory Intern at Karolinska Institutet, where they carried out protein interaction studies between a chimeric transcription factor and different histone acetyltransferases. Sabine then moved to the John Innes Centre as a Laboratory Scientist, where they conducted cysteine scanning mutagenesis in TatC of the twin-arginine translocation (Tat) pathway in bacteria. After that, they worked as a Laboratory Scientist at Cenix BioScience, where they investigated the invasion of the model organism Plasmodium berghei into hepatocytes. Sabine then completed their PHD Graduate Student at the University of Dundee, followed by a Visiting PHD Student at the University of Freiburg. In 2012, they took on the role of Postdoctoral Researcher at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München, where they used different plant models (Arabidopsis, pea, maize) to understand the thylakoid biogenesis in chloroplasts. Sabine then moved to Immunocore as a Senior Scientist in 2017. In 2020, they began working at Evotec as a Senior Scientist, and at NanoSyrinx as a Senior Scientist DSP and Research Fellow.

Sabine Bowman-Grahl obtained their University Entrance Certificate (Fachhochschulreife) in Chemistry and Mathematics from Berufliches Schulzentrum für Agrarwirtschaft und Ernährung Dresden in 2002. Sabine then obtained their Laboratory Technician (Microbiology and Inorganic Chemistry) certification from BSZ Dippoldiswalde in July of 2002. In 2003, they graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biotechnology from Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg. In 2007, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular Microbiology and Biochemistry from the University of Dundee. In March of 2022, they obtained their Design of Experiments for Bioprocess Optimisation certification from UCL.
