Alexander J.B. Zehnder

Professor Alexander J.B. Zehnder is the Scientific Director of the Alberta Water Research Institute in Edmonton, Canada, founder and director of triple Z Ltd, Visiting Professor at NTU, and Professor emeritus of ETH Zurich.

His major knowledge areas comprise qualitative and quantitative aspects of water, water policy, relation between food and water security, virtual water trade, water infrastructures; scientific and economic fundamentals for sustainable development; developing capital market instruments; microbiology; managing small and medium enterprises and large public institutions and universities.

Prof Zehnder has published books and over 200 articles in peer reviewed journals. He has chaired a number of expert commissions and participated in science and science policy advisory committees. He is also a member of the Council STS (Science and Technology in Society) forum Kyoto, the Industry Advisory Board of zouk ventures, Germany’s Triton Water, and co-founder and member of the board of directors of SPG (Sustainable Performance Group).

He completed his studies in Natural Sciences at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) and did his PhD at ETH and the Swiss Water Research Institute.

Prof Zehnder holds an honorary doctoral degree from the University in Nancy , France. He is an ISI Highly Cited Scientist and one of the “founding fathers” of the concept of the “2000 Watt Society”.
