Caroline Thomson has extensive work experience in finance, primarily in the public sector. Caroline started their career at Richmond Ltd as an Assistant Treasurer in 1994 and worked there until 2005. Caroline then joined Lowe Corporation Ltd as a Treasury Accountant from 2005 to 2008. In 2008, they moved to Hawkes Bay District Health Board as a Business Analyst for a year. From 2010 to 2015, Caroline worked at Hastings District Council in various roles, including Business Analyst and Strategic Financial Advisor. Their most recent position is with Napier City Council, where they have been serving as the Chief Financial Officer since October 2016.

Caroline Thomson completed their Master of Applied Finance degree from Victoria University of Wellington from 1998 to 2001, specializing in Banking, Corporate, Finance, and Securities Law. Caroline then pursued a Post Graduate Diploma of Accounting from Eastern Institute of Technology between 2004 and 2006. Prior to their higher education, Caroline attended Napier Girls High School.
