Timothy W. Simpson

Timothy W. Simpson serves as a Senior Advisor for Advanced Manufacturing & Digital Engineering at NASA since August 2024, focusing on fostering partnerships with industry, academia, and government agencies. Simpson holds the title of Professor Emeritus at Penn State University, where previous roles included Paul Morrow Professor of Engineering Design and Manufacturing, Affiliate Professor of Architecture, and Director of the Additive Manufacturing & Design Graduate Program. Contributions to additive manufacturing and engineering design are prominent through various advisory roles, including Technical Advisor at Xact Metal and Educational ADDVisor for The Barnes Global Advisors. Simpson has extensive teaching experience and research interests in areas such as 3D printing, product family design, and design innovation, along with a robust educational background, earning a PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a BS from Cornell University.
