Director Of Volunteer Engagement at National Aquarium

Beth Markowitz has a diverse work experience in the field of volunteer engagement and management. Beth started their career at Threshold Services as a Program Director, where they worked from an unknown start date until 2008. Beth then joined Sinai Hospital as a Volunteer Manager, a role they held from 2008 until 2016. Since 2016, Beth has been associated with the National Aquarium, first as a Manager of Volunteer Engagement from December 2016 to July 2018, and later as the Director of Volunteer Engagement from July 2018.

Beth Markowitz holds a diverse educational background. Beth obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Human Resources from Towson University, where they studied from 2010 to 2015. Prior to that, Beth pursued a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Nonprofit Management at Notre Dame of Maryland University, completing their studies from 2005 to 2007. Their undergraduate education consists of a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Communication/PR from the University of Maryland, which they earned between 1998 and 2002.

In addition to their formal education, Beth Markowitz has obtained several certifications. In 2023, they became a CliftonStrengths Coach through Gallup. Beth attained the Mental Health First Aid certification from the National Council for Behavioral Health in September 2020. Beth also holds the title of Certified Administrator of Volunteer Services, which they achieved in March 2015 under the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration. Furthermore, they have pursued personal interests by becoming a Climate Interpreter with the National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation (NNOCCI). Lastly, Beth has acquired an Open Water Diver certification from PADI.
