Joanna Grand

Director, Spatial Conservation Science at National Audubon Society

Joanna Grand has a diverse work experience in the field of spatial conservation science and ecological research. Joanna currently holds the position of Director of Spatial Conservation Science at the National Audubon Society since July 2022. Prior to this role, they served as a Senior Spatial Ecologist at the same organization from January 2016 to December 2022. Before joining the National Audubon Society, they were a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst from January 2009 to December 2015. Joanna also gained experience as an NSF Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Maryland from January 2004 to January 2009. Earlier in their career, they held the position of Assistant Director for Programs at the Center for Environmental Research and Conservation, Columbia University in the City of New York from October 1998 to January 2000.

Joanna Grand received their Bachelor's Degree in Physiological Psychology from Vassar College between 1986 and 1990. Joanna then pursued a Master's Degree in Conservation Biology at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies from 1993 to 1995. Following that, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Conservation Biology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2000 to 2004.
