Policy Director, Audubon South Carolina at National Audubon Society

Julia Dietz has a diverse work experience in the field of environmental policy and conservation. Julia began their career as a Sales Operations Intern at Verizon Wireless in 2010. Julia then worked as an Intern at Conservation International, specifically focusing on the Ocean Health Index. Starting in 2011, they joined the SEA TURTLE CONSERVANCY, INC., where they served as an Accounting Assistant/Intern and later as the Interim Membership Coordinator.

In 2013, Julia transitioned to government work, starting as a Governmental Analyst in the Office of Policy and Budget-Environment Unit at the Executive Office of the Governor Rick Scott. Julia was then promoted to Deputy Policy & Budget Chief, where they dealt with environmental current events, legislation, and budget proposals. Julia also played a leading role in implementing the Water and Land Conservation Constitutional amendment and addressing the Deepwater Horizon oil spill issues. Julia eventually became Deputy Chief of Staff, overseeing activities of environmental, transportation, and affordable housing state agencies. During Hurricane Michael, they coordinated the power restoration effort at the State Emergency Operations Center.

In 2019, Julia joined the Executive Office of the Governor Ron DeSantis as the Environmental Policy Coordinator. In this role, they developed and coordinated a multi-billion dollar plan for Everglades restoration and the protection of Florida's water resources. Julia also served as the Governor's policy expert for the Financial Impact Estimating Conference regarding the "energy choice" proposed Constitutional amendment. Later that year, they joined the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as the Acting Staff Director in the Office of Environmental Accountability and Transparency.

Most recently, Julia worked at the National Audubon Society as the Policy Director for Audubon South Carolina. Their responsibilities included developing and implementing a policy and advocacy strategy to protect birds and their habitats in South Carolina, with a focus on land conservation, resilience, and clean energy. Julia served as Co-Chair of the SC Conservation Coalition Steering Committee, co-led the Coalition's energy issue team, and represented Audubon in various statewide planning advisory committees.

Julia Dietz attended the University of Florida from 2009 to 2013, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Science. In 2012, they also completed a Semester in Washington program at Georgetown University, focusing on Politics and Public Policy. Later, from 2014 to 2016, Julia pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree at the University of Florida in Forest Resources & Conservation, specializing in Ecological Restoration.
