K. Abby Burk has a diverse work experience in environmental science, ecological restoration, and education. From 2014 to present, they have worked as the Senior Manager of the Western Rivers Program at the National Audubon Society, where they focus on protecting and restoring freshwater ecosystems in the upper Colorado River basin. In this role, they collaborate with local, state, and federal decision makers to improve water management and policy for freshwater habitats. Prior to that, from 2011 to 2014, Burk worked as a Biology and Science Professor at Front Range Community College, where they taught various courses and received nominations for Master Part-time Professor. From 2008 to 2010, they served as the Partners in Ecological Restoration of Schoolyards (PIERS) Coordinator at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Appalachian Laboratory. Burk also has experience as an Environmental Landscape Manager at Rocky Gap, where they specialized in ecological aquatic and terrestrial management, restoration, and monitoring. In this role, they managed staff, conducted environmental education programs, and achieved Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Certification.
K. Abby Burk received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology/Ecology/Botany from Towson University in the time period from 1995 to 1998. Later, they pursued an Interdisciplinary Master's degree with a concentration in Biology/Ecology/Hydrology and Teacher Education at Frostburg State University from 2000 to 2005. In addition to their academic qualifications, they obtained a certification in Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Classroom & Field Training from Richard Chinn Environmental Training, Inc. in August 2014.
