Sherrie York

Contract Illustrator Instructor at National Audubon Society

Sherrie York began their work experience in 1990 as an Independent Fine Artist, Environmental Educator, and Designer/Illustrator at Sherrie York Art. Their work focused on nature-inspired art, which has been exhibited internationally and included in various collections. Sherrie has also participated in projects with the Artists for Nature Foundation and served as an Artist-in-Residence at Acadia National Park and Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum.

In 1999, Sherrie joined the National Audubon Society as a Contract Illustrator and Instructor. Sherrie played a leading role in the design of the Audubon Adventures education program, which aims to introduce young people to nature and wildlife through magazines, online features, and interactive games.

Starting in 2000, Sherrie became a Contract Designer/Illustrator, Interpretive Writer, and Educator at the Colorado Division of Wildlife. In this position, they designed and illustrated interpretive wayside panels for numerous sites throughout the state, describing the flora, fauna, and habitat values of each location. Sherrie also served as the Coordinator for the TEN (Teaching Environmental Science Naturally) Core Team, a educators' workshop focused on environmental education.

From 2000 to 2002, Sherrie worked as the Outreach & Education Coordinator at Chico Basin Ranch. In partnership with various organizations, they developed and implemented educational and conservation programs for schools, land managers, and the general public.

Finally, from 1994 to 2000, Sherrie held multiple roles at the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies. These included Membership Coordinator, Interpretive Naturalist, and Curriculum Development. Their responsibilities involved communication with members, designing and publishing newsletters, creating educational materials, field education, and providing support for field research.

Sherrie York's education history began in 1980 when they enrolled at Concordia University in Nebraska. Sherrie pursued a Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus on Art. Sherrie completed their studies in 1984, obtaining their degree.

In 1991, Sherrie chose to further their artistic skills by attending the Art Students League of Denver. Sherrie studied a variety of subjects, including watercolor, anatomy, and oil painting during their four-year tenure at the institution.

Overall, Sherrie York's educational journey involved a combination of teaching and art, with a focus on developing their skills and knowledge in both areas.
