Erik Smith

Director of Exhibits & Education at National Children's Museum

Erik Smith has worked in the museum and education field since 1996. Erik began their career as a Middle School Science & Math Teacher for the Vista Unified School District. Erik then moved to the Capistrano Unified School District where they worked as a High School Science Teacher. In 2002, Erik joined the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center as an Exhibits Manager and Exhibit Interpreter Supervisor. During their time there, they developed educational programming, demonstrations and activities. Erik also supervised a team of Exhibit Technicians and Interpretive Staff. In 2013, Erik was hired as the Director of Exhibits & Facilities at the Scott Family Amazeum, where they were responsible for the creative development and management of permanent and temporary exhibitions. Most recently, in 2022, Erik was appointed as the Director of Exhibits & Education at the National Children's Museum. In this role, they are responsible for all aspects of exhibit development and maintenance, as well as education programming. Erik leads the team members facilitating museum experiences, ensuring that they promote the integration of high-quality STEAM content throughout the exhibits and educational programs.

Erik Smith attended UC San Diego, where they earned a degree in Biology with a focus in Science Education.
