Val Hetrick has a range of work experience spanning from 2005 to the present. They began as a Public Relations Director at Team Expansion from 2005 to 2008. Following that, they worked as an Administrative Assistant at Westview Community Church from 2008 to 2009. They then spent a year as a Barista at Starbucks from 2009 to 2010 before becoming a Substitute Teacher at Topeka Area School Districts from 2010 to 2011. From 2011 to 2012, they worked as an Associate Missionary at Team Expansion. Val Hetrick's most recent positions were at National Christian Foundation, where they held various roles including Senior Director of Outreach from 2013 to 2018, Network Relations Coordinator in 2018, and Director of Strategic Initiatives from 2018 to the present.

Val Hetrick holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Bible/Family Ministry from Manhattan Christian College. In addition, Val has obtained a certification in Human-Centered Service Design from IDEO U. Val has also completed several courses related to project management, including Budgeting and Scheduling Projects, Initiating and Planning Projects, Introduction to Project Management Principles and Practices Specialization, and Managing Project Risks and Changes, for which Val received Coursera Course Certificates.
