The Director of User Experience (UX) is responsible for shaping and driving the UX strategy across all NCBE products. This role focuses on ensuring that all products are accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with the needs of the organization’s diverse user base. The Director of UX works collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Product and Assessment Development and IT, to integrate user-centered design principles into every stage of product development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
UX Strategy Development: Leads the creation and implementation of a UX strategy that aligns with NCBE's product goals and ensures a consistent, high-quality user experience across all platforms.
User Research: Oversees user research activities to gain insights into user behaviors, needs, and pain points, and translates these insights into actionable recommendations.
Collaboration: Partners with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to integrate UX design into the product development lifecycle from conception to launch.
Innovation: Stays current with industry trends and best practices in UX and accessibility, applying this knowledge to innovate and improve NCBE's products.
Budget Management: Manages the budget for the UX portion of the product budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to meet project goals and timelines.
Team Building: Over time building a UX team to support the entire suite of NBCE products.
Cross-Functional Advocacy: Serves as a UX advocate within the organization, promoting a user-centered mindset across all departments and levels.
Vendor Management: Oversees relationships with external vendors and consultants who provide UX services or tools, ensuring alignment with NCBE's standards and goals.
Stakeholder Engagement: Communicates UX goals, progress, and outcomes to senior leadership and key stakeholders, advocating for the value of user-centered design.
Continuous Improvement: Monitors and evaluates the performance of UX designs post-launch, using data-driven insights to refine and enhance user experiences.
Design Leadership: Guides designers on creating intuitive, engaging, and effective user interfaces. Ensures that design solutions meet business objectives while enhancing user satisfaction.
Accessibility: Champions accessibility in all product designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and that all users, regardless of ability, can effectively use NCBE's products.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in UX design and leadership roles, with a strong portfolio demonstrating successful UX strategies and designs.
Deep understanding of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and experience implementing accessible designs.
Strong background in user research, including qualitative and quantitative methods.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
Passion for creating user-centered designs that meet the needs of diverse user groups.
Experience managing and developing high-performing UX teams, with a focus on professional growth and development.
Proficiency in UX tools and software (e.g., Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD) and an understanding of front-end technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and translate it into actionable UX improvements.
Experience with Agile or Lean UX methodologies, and the ability to integrate UX practices into fast-paced development environments.
A master’s degree in human-computer interaction, UX design, psychology, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.
The Director of User Experience may work remotely. NCBE will consider applicants from the following states: FL, IA, IL, IN, MA, MD, ME, MI, MO, MN, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NV, OK, PA, TX, WA, WI, and WY.
