Nadezhda Mouzykina is the Deputy Regional Director with the Central and Eastern Europe team. Since joining NDI in 2009 as a program officer, she has supported in-country and regional programming focused on parliamentary strengthening; political party and civil society development; election administration; and inclusion. Specifically, Ms. Mouzykina's work has focused on strengthening the civic and political participation of the Roma, women and youth, LGBTI, and religious minority groups.
Prior to joining NDI, Ms. Mouzykina managed international exchange and technical assistance programs in the International Affairs department of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). In addition to facilitating study tours for legislators and legislative staff, she coordinated programming for international visitors at NCSL's annual meetings, and managed a legislative education and practice program for young political leaders from Russia, Ukraine, and Georgia. She also participated in a 2005 study visit for young political leaders to Germany, as part of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation’s Transatlantic Dialogue program. From 2008 until 2009, Ms. Mouzykina took a sabbatical to spend a year in Moscow as part of the Alfa Fellowship Program, during which she worked as a Development and Project Advisor at PH International, a global nonprofit organization that works on building strong global communities through civic engagement, cross-cultural learning, and increased opportunities in the digital age.
A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, Ms. Mouzykina holds an M.A. in International Affairs from the George Washington University and a B.A. in International Studies, with minors in Russian, German, and Vocal Performance, from the Johns Hopkins University.
