Christopher Thornton

Christopher Thornton has a diverse work experience in various organizations. Christopher started in 2010 as a Lecturer at George Mason University. Then, they joined the National Geographic Society in 2010 and held multiple positions including Program Officer, Lead Program Officer, Senior Director of Social Sciences, and Acting VP of Grants. In 2018, they became the Director of the Division of Research Programs at the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Christopher Thornton earned their Bachelor's degree in Archaeometry and Archaeology from Harvard University, where they studied from 1997 to 2001. Christopher then pursued a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Archaeology at the University of Cambridge from 2001 to 2002. Continuing their academic journey, Christopher went on to complete a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania, completing their studies from 2002 to 2009.
