Tim Carlton currently serves as Legislative Director for the National Governors Association, a position held since November 2021. Prior experience includes serving as Policy Advisor for U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) from February 2019 to November 2021, and as Senior Legislative Assistant for Congressman Glenn Grothman from March 2017 to February 2019, as well as roles as Senior Legislative Assistant, Legislative Assistant, and Legislative Correspondent in various capacities for Congressman Duncan Hunter from 2013 to 2017. Early career experiences include internships and student work roles, including as a Barista at Starbucks and a Student Worker in the Office of Chairman Greg Cox for the County of San Diego. Tim Carlton holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from Point Loma Nazarene University and has studied at the University of Vienna.

The National Governors Association (NGA)—the bipartisan organization of the nation's governors—promotes visionary state leadership, shares best practices and speaks with a collective voice on national policy. Founded in 1908, the National Governors Association (NGA) is the collective voice of the nation’s governors and one of Washington, D.C.'s most respected public policy organizations. Its members are the governors of the 55 states, territories and commonwealths. NGA provides governors and their senior staff members with services that range from representing states on Capitol Hill and before the Administration on key federal issues to developing and implementing innovative solutions to public policy challenges through the NGA Center for Best Practices. NGA also provides management and technical assistance to both new and incumbent governors.
