David Wright Freng

David Wright FREng has extensive experience in engineering and asset management within the energy sector, currently serving as Chief Engineer & Chief Risk Officer at National Grid since June 1992. Wright has played a pivotal role in expanding the Chief Engineering function across both the UK and US, focusing on the Net-Zero journey and promoting engineering best practices. Previous positions held include Executive Director for UK Electricity Transmission, Vice President of Transmission Asset Management in the US, and various managerial roles related to electricity and gas transmission. Wright began a career at Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd as a Special Projects Engineer after earning an Engineer’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Birmingham, where an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering was later awarded.
