Elena Rios, MD, MSPH, MACP has had an extensive and diverse work experience. Elena began in 1994, serving as an Advisor for Regional & Minority Women's Health at the US Department of Health and Human Services until 1998. From 1998 onwards, they took on the role of President & CEO at the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA), where they represented 50,000 Hispanic physicians and worked to improve the health of Hispanics. Additionally, they served as President of the National Hispanic Health Foundation from 2006 and became a Member of the Board of Directors at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield in 2012. Most recently, in 2018, they joined The New York Academy of Medicine as a Trustee. Throughout their career, Dr. Elena Rios has been dedicated to empowering individuals in the medical field, fostering leadership, and advocating for better healthcare.

Dr. Elena Rios completed their education in a chronological order. Elena earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Human Biology and Public Administration from Stanford University, where they studied from 1973 to 1977. Following that, they attended UCLA Public Health School from 1978 to 1980 and obtained a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) with a focus on Health Planning & Policy Analysis. Dr. Rios subsequently pursued a medical degree (MD) at UCLA Medical School, which they completed between 1982 and 1987. Later on, they engaged in a UCLA Health Policy Fellowship from 1990 to 1992, where they gained expertise in Health Policy Research.
