Joel Cline

Director National Windstorm Impact Reduction Program at National Institute of Standards and Technology

Joel Cline is a skilled meteorologist with extensive experience in weather services and renewable energy. Currently serving as the Tropical Program Coordinator at NOAA National Weather Service since October 2017, Cline has been a member of the American Meteorological Society since 1980. Previous roles include Physical Scientist at the U.S. Department of Energy, where Cline focused on resource forecasting for wind and water power, and various positions at NOAA, including Senior Forecaster at the National Hurricane Center and Lead Forecaster at the National Weather Service. Cline holds dual B.S. degrees in Meteorology and Computer Science from North Carolina State University and a Master’s in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography from the University of Miami. Cline's work has significantly contributed to strategic planning and policy development in weather-related programs and renewable energy initiatives.
