Sivaraj Shyam-Sunder

Sivaraj Shyam-Sunder currently serves as the Director of the Special Programs Office and Acting Director of the Standards Coordination Office at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) since September 2013, focusing on high-profile programs in critical and emerging technologies and serving as Chief Data Officer since 2019. Previous roles at NIST include Senior Science Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of Commerce, Founding Director of the Engineering Laboratory, and Director of the Building and Fire Research Laboratory, managing substantial budgets and leading large teams in advancing innovation and competitiveness. Sivaraj's academic background includes a Doctor of Science and a Master of Science in Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, complemented by a Bachelor of Technology (Honors) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
