Project Management Team Lead - Construction And Research Support at National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Matt Bournonville, PE, PMP, CFM, DBIA has extensive work experience in project management, construction, and research support. Matt is currently serving as the Project Management Team Lead at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory since February 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Project Manager at the same organization from July 2020 to February 2021.

Before joining the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Matt worked in various roles within the U.S. Coast Guard. Matt served as the Commanding Officer at Base Charleston from June 2018 to June 2020. Prior to that, they were the Director of Facilities Management at Base Elizabeth City from July 2015 to June 2018, where they managed a staff of 70 employees and oversaw facilities engineering, public works, environmental stewardship, energy management, health/safety, and emergency response services for a large campus.

Matt also held positions as the Chief of Planning and Real Property and Chief of Construction at the Civil Engineering Unit of the U.S. Coast Guard. In these roles, they managed capital planning, real property actions, and construction projects. Matt also served as a Project Manager for capital planning, design, and construction at the Facilities Design & Construction Center.

Earlier in their career, Matt served as the Assistant Director of Facilities Management at Training Center Cape May, where they supervised facilities maintenance for a training and academic campus. Matt has also held command roles on Coast Guard cutters and served as a graduate student in the Coast Guard Advanced Education Program.

Overall, Matt Bournonville has a diverse background in project management, construction, and facilities management, with extensive experience in the renewable energy sector and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Matt Bournonville, PE, PMP, CFM, DBIA, attended the US Coast Guard Academy, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil Engineering. Matt then pursued further education at The University of Kansas, earning a Master of Science (MS) degree in Civil Engineering. In addition to their academic achievements, Matt has obtained various certifications including Certified Facility Manager (CFM) from IFMA, Designated Design-Build Professional Certification from the Design-Build Institute of America, Professional Engineer (PE) from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, and Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute.
